Safe-T-Barrier™ is a 100%
cotton barrier cloth to be used as an excellent barrier to reduce
flame-spread and heat release. Safe-T-Barrier™ can be used for borders and
tops of mattresses, futons and furniture.
For over 30 years, Firetect has manufactured flame retardant
coatings and saturants for the textile industry. Safe-T-Guard® is the name
of the product that Safe-T-Barrier™ is treated with. Safe-T-Guard® has a
proven track record in that it will not change the hand of the fabric, leave
any white flaky residue; no smell or oiliness. It is a 100% organic, water
based, non-hazardous, non-toxic, biodegradable saturant. Safe-T-Guard® has
passed a wide variety of tests referenced on the Product Data Sheet in this
package or on our website. You may purchase Safe-T-Guard® to treat your own
fabrics; we can treat your fabrics, or you can purchase Safe-T-Barrier™ for
your own use. Whatever your needs, Firetect will work with you to customize
and perfect your finishing process.
TESTING CRITERIA:
Safe-T-Barrier™ was used to pass a full scale TB-603 burn testing with a
maximum heat release of 76. The barrier cloth was placed directly under the
ticking and above the foam. Flame retardant thread and flame retardant tape
was not used for this test, however, FR tape and FR thread are recommended.
A grey dust cover was used on the foundation using a, "continental style".
IMPORTANT FABRICATING INFORMATION:
Not only is our barrier cloth a very important component in passing
TB-603, but the other components are, as well. TB-603 is a, "heat release
test"; therefore, it might be advantageous to also test the components that
are used in the manufacturing of your product. We have found that the more
synthetic the fibers, the hotter the flame burns. When polyester melts, it
will actually keep burning until the gasses have burned off. There are some
threads and tape that burn hotter and hold more flame than others, including
FR threads and tape. In our experience, it is important to measure the heat
release and evaluate the burning characteristic of the components used in
your process. The fabrication of mattresses and furniture is also very
important in passing of TB-603. Please call Firetect™ and we can discuss
